In the Land of Mul and Berry

It's been awhile now without word on this page so I though i'd type something. The Lunchtime show is no more for now. Why? I sold myself short, going live to starting a daily lunch show just proved too much too soon.

The Lunchtime show was my idea and it was alot of fun at first but my enthusiasm quickly waned. I'd also just gotten an Xbox 360 and that didn't help. I hadn't played alot of Video Games since my 3yr Old Daughter had been born so this temptation was too strong not to give in to. And honestly doing something like a lunchtime show is hard to keep interested in if there is very little in the way of feedback, you feel like no one is listening anyway so why bother.

Doing the Weekly show it's easy to find reason to do that but doing a daily show 3 times a week is different, I only have so many hours to myself during the week with my Daughter at school and I want to watch movies in the dark and quiet and play some games with Bill on xbox live.

I think the Lunchtime show will return, the original idea for it was to work out some issues like using the phone and having call-ins during so we wouldnt have to deal with those issues on the evening show. Once i'd worked those issues out I had no reason to continue really. I will tell you this, I would do a daily show for pay in a heartbeat though. It was fun.

The Mulberry Archive

We're talking Old Skool Mulberry here folks, 81 shows and counting, too many to keep on the official Feed. Here you can find all of our old episodes all the waaaaay back to Episode 1 of NIM. All of our old episodes of Nowhere in Mulberry have been placed on their own feed called Mulberry Old Skool! Check it out, you will be suprised at how much the show has evovled and how much it is the same.

I think that we've just gotten better at what we do. Don't tell anyone but every once in awhile I'll pop in an old episode and listen just to see where we were and what we were doing at the point of time and it can be alot of fun. For someone just discovering the show it might be fun to go back and see the origin of a certain joke or sound drop that Foggy now plays with Regularity, Check it out!

Hiatus

Someone once said that; "Podcasting is a thankless fucking hobby with zero rewards." There have been times when I would tend to agree with that person. But there have also been times when it's been so much fun, such a joyful distraction that I didn't find it 'Thankless' with 'Zero rewards'.

I would say that you only get what you put into it, the work that you put into your show is what you hear when you play it back. When you upload that show that you've just finished editing and you stream it off of your site or listen to it or download it from iTunes, That's the rewarding part. Listening back to the show and you hear the fun you had while recording it. It's now been immortalized, it is forever. You've just left something that might not be memorable to other people but it's there, a sonic scrapbook for you to relive years later. The zombies, the drops, the clips, the news, the dvd's, the memories. It's all there. The time my home flooded is there in the show, the time i had a blow out on the freeway, those happy times after we'd just come home from a new movie. Re-living events of those fun Saturdays with 3 of my favorite people. That's is what it has been about.

Stephen, Bill and Vanessa have all brought something unique to the show, a unique kind of experience that sometimes is amplified upon playback. Mulberry is always best with the four of us together, all of us on our game.

Some of my favorite bits have been during the news and dvd's. That's the part of the show where I don't have to talk anymore and can just listen and I love it. Foggy's drops always make me laugh or offend me, that guy is quite a talent and enigma unto himself.

The people that enjoy that show that send us voicemails become characters on the show, they are accepted into loving welcoming arms, with us ready to devour them much like those weird dudes in beastmaster when they consume your flesh and there is nothing left but bones. But what a Tasty meal that was!

Those big shows are always the most fun, be it Zombies in a mall or in Bill's Historical Library or on a Time Travelling Train, our best of shows are always so much fun and always a big pain to edit but always worth it upon playback.

The part I always crave is to know what 'they' thought. What did our listeners think? Did they enjoy this crazy show? But alas I will never know for they do not let me know...

...sigh.

Podcasting is a thankless hobby with zero fucking rewards, indeed.
